Less than 25% of teen girls and 45% of teen boys get enough physical activity or meet Canada's Physical Activity Guidelines. With HPSS we want to increase physical activity to improve students’ health for now and forever.
Inactive pastimes, like recreational screen time, are on the rise. Screen time includes TV watching, texting with friends, surfing the internet, or playing hand held games. Television watching is also linked to unhealthy eating. With HPSS we want to lower recreational screen time to improve students’ health for now and forever.
We are also eating less healthy, including not enough fruits and vegetables. With HPSS we want to add fruits and vegetables to diets to improve students’ health for now and forever.
Canadians are drinking sugar sweetened beverages, such as pop, fruit blends or sports drinks, more and more. These drinks are adding too much sugar to our bodies. With HPSS we want to lower the amount of sugar sweetened beverages in diets to improve students’ health for now and forever.
